A dedicated Video tab in DMXDesktop launches a second-screen window in one of two modes - Pattern Playback or Video Playlist. Built for DJs, VJs, and installers who want a visual layer without a separate VJ rig. Included in Standard and Pro.
Audio-Reactive Pattern Playback
Eighteen GPU-accelerated audio-reactive presets. Pick the ones you want, set a cycle duration, hit launch. The window reads your live audio - BPM, energy, and input level - and animates in sync.
Every Pattern, in Under a Minute
A short demo of every built-in pattern. Each one is live-driven by audio and runs at native refresh rates.
Pick Which Patterns Rotate
Tick only the presets you want to use. A select-all / deselect-all toggle speeds up testing.
Cycle Duration Slider
10 seconds to 60 minutes, or Never (stay on one pattern). ±20% random jitter keeps rotations feeling natural.
Live Updates
Changes apply immediately to any open window - no restart needed. A LIVE badge confirms settings are active.
Graceful Fallback
No live audio source configured? The visualizer still renders - just slower. No error, no blank frame.

Milkdrop Presets in the Same Window
Alongside the built-in patterns, the Video Window can now render classic Milkdrop presets through a Milkdrop-compatible engine, driven by the same live audio. A hundred presets are bundled, you can import your own .milk files, and there is a full page on how it all works.
Video Playlist Playback
Load your own MP4, MOV, WebM, or MKV files and loop them on a second screen. Great for VJ loops, branded content, and pre-show walk-in visuals.

Loop a single clip, walk through a list in order, or randomize playback between videos.

If a file goes missing mid-playback, DMXDesktop skips to the next video instead of showing an error overlay.
How It Works
Plug in a Second Monitor
Any external display works - HDMI, DisplayPort, or a USB capture into a projector.
Pick a Mode in the Video Tab
Toggle between Patterns and Video Playlist. Settings for each are remembered independently.
Launch the Window
Hit Launch Window, drag it to your second display, and full-screen it. That's it.
The Window Behaves Itself
Remembers your display
The video window reopens on the same screen and in the same position you left it, so a second monitor or a projector does not need setting up again each night.
Always on top, with a toggle
The window keeps itself above everything else by default, which is what you want on a second screen. Turn that off if you would rather it behaved like any other window.
Remembers your preset filter
Whatever you had the preset list filtered to is still there when you come back to it.
Goes dark when the music stops
A Fade to black on silence switch takes the same decision the lighting engine makes, so a video wall and a rig reach black on the same edge, obeying the Trigger percentage and Delay you have already set. It works on the pop-out window and on screen objects in the 3D Visualizer alike.
One screen, both sources
DJ video and the visualiser used to be mutually exclusive, so a screen set to one could never show the other. DJ video now takes the screen while the master deck has a video to play, and the visualiser has it back the rest of the time. A screen showing DJ video is never dimmed by the silence fade, since the video is the thing you are watching.
The Video Window is available to all paid subscribers.
