How to Use RDM in DMXDesktop
- Connect Your RDM-Compatible DMX Interface – Ensure your USB or network interface supports RDM.
- Go to the Fixture Patch Panel – Locate your RDM-enabled fixtures.
- Select a Fixture & Adjust Settings – Modify start address, personality, or other supported RDM parameters.
- Use Auto Address (Optional) – Let DMXDesktop automatically assign addresses for all fixtures in the universe.

Faster, better behaved discovery on an Enttec Pro
Starting output on an Enttec DMX USB Pro universe used to quietly run a full RDM scan of the line, and that scan held the DMX bus for as long as it lasted. With anything RDM capable connected it had no natural end, so the lights never came up and the app appeared frozen. It read as a dead interface or a broken show file rather than as a discovery scan.
From v1.0.52 the scan is bounded, it no longer holds up normal output, and the DMX I/O diagnostics view no longer freezes while one is running. If you run an Enttec Pro with RDM capable fixtures on the line, this is the release where the rig comes up promptly.
What RDM finds is unchanged. It now has its own RDM sub-tab on the DMX I/O page, next to Patching and Discovery.
Which interfaces can do RDM?
RDM needs an interface that can listen as well as talk, so not every DMX output supports it. We test device by device rather than take the marketing at its word, and the hardware compatibility matrix marks every interface as verified, RDM capable but not yet verified, or no RDM at all.
Verified so far: the Enttec DMX USB Pro and DMX USB Pro Mk2, the DMXKing eDMX MAX family, and the Obsidian Netron EN4 and EP4. Others advertise RDM but have not passed our own testing, and those carry a question mark rather than a tick.
