Version Lifetime Licence

How Version Lifetime Licences work

Pay once for indefinite access to v1, with every 1.x update, and a published upgrade offer if you ever want v2.

Three promises at a glance

  • Your v1 licence doesn't end when v2 arrives.

It gives you indefinite, perpetual access to version 1.x, including every 1.x update, whether or not you upgrade. Use of the software is covered by our Terms of Service and EULA.

  • Bought in the last 3 months? v2 is free.

If you've owned v1 for less than 3 whole calendar months when v2 is released, or you bought it after v2 was announced, v2 costs nothing.

  • Upgrade credit plus a 30% loyalty discount.

Every lifetime owner gets upgrade credit, calculated over 18 months from purchase, plus 30% off whatever is left.

What happens when v2 is released

It depends on how many whole calendar months you'd owned v1 on the day v2 comes out.

  1. 1. Less than 3 whole months

    Free

Or bought after v2 was announced. Your v2 upgrade costs nothing.

  2. 2. 3 to 17 whole months

Upgrade credit plus 30% loyalty discount

Upgrade credit, calculated over 18 months from your purchase, comes off the v2 price, then 30% off the rest.

  3. 3. 18 whole months or more

    30% loyalty discount

You've owned v1 for 18 whole months or more. Upgrade credit no longer applies, and you still get 30% off v2.

What you'd pay to upgrade

Your upgrade price depends on how many whole calendar months you'd owned v1 when v2 is released. It only changes once a month, so the lines move in steps.

Examples assume v2 is priced the same as v1. We'll publish actual v2 prices before launch. Prices shown in USD.

The upgrade offer described here applies to an optional purchase of the next major version. Upgrade credit is a discount against that purchase. It has no cash value and is separate from any refund rights under our Terms of Service or applicable law. The 18-month period is used only to calculate upgrade credit and does not limit how long your Version Lifetime Licence lasts.

How the numbers work

Why 18 months? Our lifetime price is about the same as 18 months of the monthly plan, so we use an 18-month period to calculate upgrade credit. This doesn't limit how long your licence lasts.

Counting months. We count whole calendar months from your purchase date to the day v2 is released. A month is complete when the same date comes round again. If you bought on 15 March, your third whole month is complete on 15 June, so on 14 June you'd have owned v1 for 2 whole months. If a month is too short to have your date (you bought on 31 January, say), its last day counts.

Upgrade credit. For each of the 18 months after your purchase that hadn't been completed by v2's release, you get 1/18 of what you paid as credit against the v2 price.

Loyalty discount. Every v1 lifetime owner then gets 30% off whatever is left. The upgrade credit comes off first, so the total discount can never be more than the v2 price.

A worked example

You bought Standard for $179 and had owned it for 6 whole months when v2 was released. 12 of the 18 months hadn't been completed, so you get 12/18 of $179 = $119.33 upgrade credit. $179 − $119.33 = $59.67. With 30% loyalty off, you pay $41.77.

How we handle v2

  • v1 after v2

Releasing v2 doesn't end your v1 licence. We intend to keep fixing major bugs and serious issues in v1 for a while after v2 is released, but we won't add new features to it. Over time, changes to Windows and macOS may stop older versions from working. If we ever stop supporting v1, our Terms of Service require at least 30 days' notice by email.

  • Upgrade prices before launch

We'll publish v2 upgrade prices before v2 launches, so you can decide with the real numbers in front of you.

  • How we approach major versions

A major version is a substantial new release with significant new capabilities. Our aim is not to hold back features from v1.x to create one.

  • Your purchase keeps its terms

Under our Terms of Service, orders stay under the Terms in force when they were placed. We may update this upgrade offer from time to time. Any change will be published on this page with its date and applies from that date.

How this compares

There's no single right way to license software. Here's how common approaches generally work and where ours sits.

  • All-versions lifetime

How it usually works: One payment covers every future version. Usually priced higher, or supported by other revenue such as hardware bundles.

How ours compares: Ours covers one major version, with a credit and discount for the next one.

  • Perpetual licence with 12 months of updates

How it usually works: You keep the version you bought, but new features stop after a year unless you pay to renew.

How ours compares: We include every v1.x update for the life of v1, with no renewal fee.

  • Annual licence

How it usually works: The licence lasts a year and must be bought again.

How ours compares: Ours gives indefinite, perpetual access to v1.

  • Subscription with fallback

How it usually works: After a minimum subscription period you keep the version that was current when you started.

How ours compares: Ours is yours from day one.

  • Version licence with paid upgrades

How it usually works: Updates within a version are free; a new major version costs a discounted upgrade, usually the same discount for everyone.

How ours compares: Same idea, plus a free window and credit for recent buyers.

Questions

Does "lifetime" mean every future version?

No. It means indefinite, perpetual access to version 1.x, including every 1.x update. A future v2 would be an optional upgrade at a published price.

What if I buy today and v2 comes out next month?

You'd get v2 free. If you've owned v1 for less than 3 whole calendar months when v2 is released, or you bought after v2 was announced, the upgrade costs nothing.

How do you count months?

In whole calendar months from your purchase date. If you bought on 15 March, your third month is complete on 15 June.

When is v2 coming?

As of 23 October 2026, we don't expect v2 before late 2027. When it is planned, we'll announce it and publish upgrade prices before launch.

Will v1 stop working when v2 comes out?

No. Releasing v2 doesn't end your v1 licence, and we intend to keep fixing major bugs and serious issues in v1 for a while afterwards. Over time, changes to Windows and macOS may stop older versions from working. If we ever stop supporting v1, our Terms of Service require at least 30 days' notice by email.

What happens to add-ons when v2 comes out?

Pro licences, including Pro Version Lifetime, include all add-ons released for the current major version. We'll explain how add-ons carry over to v2 when we publish v2 upgrade prices.

Are cloud features included while I use v1?

Cloud services, such as fixture profiles, are covered by our Terms of Service, which include at least 30 days' notice before we stop or significantly change them.

I'm on a monthly or annual subscription. Does this apply to me?

This page covers lifetime licences. Subscribers always get the current version as part of their subscription.

Do I have to upgrade?

No. Upgrading is always your choice.

Can these terms change after I buy?

Our Terms of Service say orders stay under the Terms in force when they were placed. We may update this upgrade offer from time to time. Any change will be published on this page with its date and applies from that date.

Why not include every future version?

Pricing per major version helps us fund continued development while keeping the lifetime price affordable.
