DMXDesktop works with any Art-Net or sACN compliant node. The nodes below are recognised by name with live status icons - but you are not limited to this list.
Network nodes also feed DMX back into DMXDesktop as input on the Pro tier.

MIDI controllers
Any class-compliant MIDI device works. Map anything to anything.
Put the cursor in the box for the command you want, press the key you want it on, and that is the binding made. Nothing has to match a preset layout. The controllers below get deeper, device-specific integration on top of that: pad colours, displays, motorised faders and feedback back to the unit.

Supported controllers can now arrive with a default mapping already in place, so a new unit does something useful before you bind anything. The SoundSwitch Control One ships with a full default map. Every seeded binding is an ordinary binding, so you can change or delete any of it.
Pads carry two colours, one for when the bound thing is off and one for when it is on, and any pad can be set to blink. Right-click a pad in the MIDI visualiser to set them. On a controller with a limited palette the picker only offers the colours that unit can actually produce.
Not listed is not unsupported. A controller without its own map still binds to everything, it just does not get the colour and display extras.

Hardware FAQ
Can I capture DMX input over USB?
Not currently. USB DMX interfaces are output-only in DMXDesktop. To bring DMX into the software, use an Art-Net or sACN node - DMX input is available on the Pro tier.
Which interface should I buy?
For a single universe, any Enttec USB DMX Pro or compatible interface is a safe, well-supported choice. For multiple universes or DMX input, an Art-Net / sACN node such as a DMXKing eDMX or Enttec ODE gives you the most flexibility.
Does my generic no-name USB DMX dongle work?
If it is built on the FTDI FT232 chipset with a DMX output stage, yes - select the Enttec USB Open driver. UART-only interfaces without a DMX512 stage are not supported.
How many universes can one USB interface drive?
Most USB interfaces handle one universe; some, such as the Enttec Pro Mk2 and DMXKing ultraDMX2 PRO, handle two. DMXKing offers many variants, so check the model's spec. For more universes, run multiple interfaces or move to Art-Net / sACN.
My device isn't in the list - can you add it?
Contact us with the make and model. If it speaks a protocol we can support, we'll do our best to add it.
Which MIDI controllers does DMXDesktop support?
Any class-compliant MIDI controller, and you can map any control to any function. A shortlist of controllers gets device-specific extras on top: per-state pad colours on the Akai APC Mini MK2 and APC40 MK2, motorised faders and channel displays on the Behringer X-Touch, and per-pad colours, the visualiser ring and the OLED status screen on the SoundSwitch Control One.
Can one device be my DMX interface and my control surface?
Yes. The SoundSwitch Control One is both: DMXDesktop drives its two DMX outputs as ordinary universes and its pads, ring and OLED screen as a MIDI surface, at the same time. Any universe can go to either of its outputs.
