Stream Deck Plugin: All 34 Actions

A reference for every action in the DMXDesktop Stream Deck plugin: 27 that run on any Stream Deck, and 7 that sit on the encoders of a Stream Deck +. Each entry says what the action does and, where it matters, what your key will show. For installation and connection, see setup and connection.

Actions marked Dial need a device with encoders. Groups that need a paid licence are marked; everything else works on any licence including Free.

Live control

Works on any licence.

  • Live Control. Blackout, strobe, blinder, freeze, fog or effect, on the whole rig or only the groups you choose. It follows the control's own momentary or latching setting in DMXDesktop, so a blinder you hold and a blackout you set. See live controls.
  • Special Effect. Wave, thunder and the rest. Always momentary, so it stops on key-up.
  • Live Edit. Fire a live edit.
  • Live Edit Group. Fire a whole group, press again to drop it. The lamp follows the desk.

Effect cues

Works on any licence.

  • Effect Cue: Play. Play a named effect cue, picked from a list read off your own rig.
  • Effect Cue: Transport. Stop, next or previous. Each verb draws its own icon.
  • Effect Cue: Now Playing. Displays the cue that is playing, and blanks when nothing is.
  • Effect Cue Stack. Play, stop, pause or toggle an effect cue stack.

The Programmer and cue stacks

Needs a Pro licence. These six keys are the reason a lot of people want a Stream Deck in the first place.

  • Programmer: Cue Stack (GO). GO, BACK, HALT or STOP, each on its own key. Run a show the way a lighting desk expects to be run.
  • Programmer: Cue. Fire a Programmer cue.
  • Programmer: Cue Stack Flash. Held while the key is down, released on key-up.
  • Programmer: Function. Fire a Programmer function by position.
  • Programmer: Cue Stack Level. Dial. Ride a stack's level rather than jumping it. Press for full, press again to release.
  • Programmer: Fader. Dial. Any cue, fixture, group or executor fader.

QuickShow

Works on any licence. See the QuickShow page for what these drive.

  • QuickShow Beam Effect. 38 beam effects. Carries the current spread, phase and speed rather than resetting them.
  • QuickShow Movement Effect. 15 movement effects.
  • QuickShow Direction. Forward, reverse or bounce. Changes a running effect without interrupting it.
  • QuickShow Theme. Switch colour palette, built-in or your own.
  • QuickShow Preset. Recall a whole look.
  • QuickShow Stop All. Stop beam and movement together.
  • QuickShow Slider. Dial. Eight sliders, including beam speed as a note timing.

Colour, position and levels

Works on any licence.

  • Color Override. Apply a palette, built-in or custom, and hand the fixtures back with the same key. See colours and themes.
  • Position Override. Apply a position preset. Centre means cleared.
  • Master Dimmer. Dial. Press for full, press again to restore.
  • Macro Fader. Dial. One of DMXDesktop's own macro faders.

DJ

Needs Standard or above. See DJ Mode.

  • DJ Mode. On, off or toggle, and optionally choose which DJ application runs. On a Free licence this key can still follow the desk, it just cannot toggle it.
  • DJ Deck. Play, pause or stop either deck. The lamp follows the deck.
  • DJ Crossfader. Dial. Press to centre. The strip reads -100 to 0 to +100. Needs the built-in Music Player.

Audio and BPM

Works on any licence. This group mirrors DMXDesktop's Audio and BPM controls, and all of it is the capture side, meaning what DMXDesktop listens to. See live audio detection.

  • Audio Capture. Whether DMXDesktop is listening at all. Drives level and energy.
  • Audio Capture Device. Which device it listens to. One key per device, and the lit one is in use. Output devices are included, which is loopback, and usually what you want for a DJ set.
  • BPM Source. Where the tempo comes from: the captured audio, Ableton Link, or OS2L. The three are mutually exclusive, so a row of them shows exactly one lit.
  • BPM. Displays the current BPM.
  • Re-scan Audio Devices. For an interface plugged in after DMXDesktop started.
  • Audio Capture Level. Dial. Input volume or energy.

The seven dials

Pulled together for convenience. These need a Stream Deck with encoders, such as the Stream Deck +. Turn for fine, press for full. Dial speed is adjustable (off, gentle, normal or fast), per dial or for all of them at once; on Off, one detent is exactly one step.

What has no key, and why

Three DMXDesktop controls are not available over the network, so the plugin has no action for them: deck EQ, jog wheels and AutoMix. These are listed so their absence is not a surprise rather than a fault to report.

Two more are worth knowing about. A macro fader moved by MIDI may lag until the next update. The capture level and energy sliders in DMXDesktop's own Audio popup announce nothing, so a dial will not follow a change made there; save the same change on the Settings page and the dial follows it.
