Behringer WING: audio into DMXDesktop

WING has a 48-in, 48-out USB interface built in, with no expansion card needed, and a fully assignable output matrix. You can put a music-only stereo bus on any USB pair you like and point DMXDesktop at it.

What you need

  • A USB Type-B cable to the WING's USB audio port.
  • On Windows, the current WING USB audio driver.
  • On macOS, nothing extra.

Connect the console

Windows

  1. Install the WING USB audio driver.
  2. Power the console on before starting DMXDesktop.
  3. In Settings → Audio, pick WING from the ASIO group.

macOS

  1. Connect and power on WING.
  2. Confirm it appears in Audio MIDI Setup.
  3. Select it in Settings → Audio.

Fastest setup: the main mix

  1. Open Routing → Outputs and choose the USB outputs.
  2. Select USB outputs 1 and 2.
  3. From the MAIN source group, choose Main 1, or whichever main bus is your mix.
  4. The MAIN sources have no tap-point choice. If you need a specific tap point, use a USER SIGNAL source instead, which can be taken from different points in the signal flow.
  5. In DMXDesktop, select channels 1 and 2.

Recommended setup: a music-only bus

  1. Create or free up a stereo bus and name it DMXDesktop.
  2. Unmute the bus and set its fader to 0 dB.
  3. Send each music channel to it at 0 dB, and choose pre-fader or post-fader sends. No speech microphones, no talkback.
  4. In Routing → Outputs, assign that bus's left and right to USB outputs 1 and 2.
  5. In DMXDesktop, select channels 1 and 2.

Any free pair within the USB AUDIO channel count works. If USB 1 and 2 are already spoken for by a recording rig, use 47 and 48, with USB AUDIO set to 48, and select those numbers in DMXDesktop instead.

Troubleshooting

No signal at all

Confirm you changed USB outputs from WING rather than the USB return sources coming into it. They sit near each other in the routing screen.

One side only

Only one half of the stereo bus got assigned. Check both.

The device will not open

Sample rate mismatch, or another application is holding the driver. Close any DAW or recording software and try again.

The channels you patched are not in DMXDesktop's list

The USB AUDIO channel count is set below the channel you used. Raise it or patch lower.

Still not working

Work through the shared checks in Connecting a Sound Mixer to DMXDesktop, which covers the faults that are not specific to one console. If you need to contact support, have these five things ready, because they resolve most cases immediately:

  1. The exact mixer model.
  2. Your Windows or macOS version.
  3. How the mixer is connected, and which USB port you used.
  4. Which device you picked in Settings → Audio.
  5. Which left and right channel numbers you selected.
